Yesterday I ran an event on what I call β€œcasual convening” at the #Cambridge #ResearchCulture festival. The gist is that we need more moments to connect on substantial topics in low-stakes contexts. With everything so transactional and metric-driven, we need to build informal moments of exchange.
A fossil nervous system meets modern neurobiology. We found that a living comb jelly preserves neural architecture remarkably similar to those inferred from Cambrian fossils over 500 million years old 🀩. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Great article on the kinds of people that will thrive in an academic career. It is a funny skillset, but when you look around you see all of these selections at play

Multinucleation as a recurring evolutionary strategy for scaling and plasticity
I just came back from some wonderful fieldwork in Madagascar and was lucky enough to have done some in South Africa in Feb. Both times I come back with so much joy! Is it the working with nice people? Being out in nature? Away from the computer? The getting to do science in the flesh? So refreshing.
