I just came back from some wonderful fieldwork in Madagascar and was lucky enough to have done some in South Africa in Feb. Both times I come back with so much joy! Is it the working with nice people? Being out in nature? Away from the computer? The getting to do science in the flesh? So refreshing.

Yesterday I ran an event on what I call “casual convening” at the #Cambridge #ResearchCulture festival. The gist is that we need more moments to connect on substantial topics in low-stakes contexts. With everything so transactional and metric-driven, we need to build informal moments of exchange.
