I made a compromise: a full time job that does have summers off, and summers are where the bulk of novel writing happens now. And... the last few summers have been filled with health emergencies. I'm luckier than most, I see it. But it's still frustrating to me when my plans are thwarted.
Well then, after some back and forth, it's been decided that they'll be going in after my kidney stone to shoot it with lasers, so my fourth surgery for a kidney stone happens next week. At least I'm on summer break and have the time off, but I'm dreading the pain and recovery.

Me, "if this is true..." The internet promptly doesn't read the 'if' and proceeds to lecture me about the alternatives to the 'if.' It often feels like a lot of people just assume you're an idiot while not reading the actual words you put down, and it makes one feel... certain ways... lol "IF!"

... we are looking at the natural consequence of all this firing of creatives because managers think they can automate out thinking and can now just press a button and have the work done for them bc they don't value human output. In some ways, AI's fault, in another, the modern C suite is a plague.
Also, I explained that anger from the South Koreans poorly, I was editing quickly and dropped a clause. The South Koreans are upset bc the ad campaign was a disrespecting of the democracy protests that led to modern Korea. You can see how AI could have looked at the dates, and tried to link them.

The destruction of a brand in 24 hours, a 26 percent drop in sales, the arrests, tens of millions of rewards cards cashed out or canceled. It's a corporate disaster on a scale that is... wild. They claim it's because an AI marketing campaign was just signed off on without review. If true...

Yeah, writer Ed Zitron calls them 'business idiots' and we're run by them as a class.
If this marketing campaign came out of AI, what is the, company that made that AI's liability, I wonder, bc if I were Starbucks South Korea right now, I'd be curious what the contracts with the AI engine they used look like, and who could be sued.

So Starbucks in South Korea ran a set of ads for a 'tank' coffee thermos and used words that seemed to disrespect the protests which has led to a boycott, CEOs stepping down, public apologies, and now, arrests. Buried in the article below is the reason: AI www.theguardian.com/world/2026/j...
