4 years ago we planted 3 knee-high banana pups. They quickly grew (despite pruning) into a very large mini-grove. Today it was time to harvest this year’s crop.

It’s winter: short days, long nights, and time to put up the Matariki (Māori New Year) tree.

On the 13th day of June my native garden gave to me, a kererū in a kōwhai tree
(It seems to be eating the young kōwhai shoots; I did not know they did that)
Wish I could say this morning was as calm as it looks, but I had unsecured dogs running up to me and jumping on me as I walked. And a kid walking with his dad turned off my full-length 45-min video camera just before sunrise, ruining the footage.
So except for other people, great morning. #rantover
Pre-sunrise, Monday, 15 June from Wainui Beach, Aotearoa / New Zealand.
“Sunrise” was hidden behind those clouds and much duller, so I’m posting this instead.
