Lmao the reason this leaked was because he wanted to buy IDEF, a totally illiquid BlackRock fund that trades ~$100k a day, instead of ITA which trades hundred of millions, so he had his brokers call up BlackRock and ask for a direct creation under his name. There’s so many layers of stupidity here.

Four-byline alert: 🚨 “.. A broker for Pete Hegseth, the US defence secretary, attempted to make a big investment in major defence companies in the weeks leading up to the US-Israeli attack on Iran, according to three people familiar with the matter.” www.ft.com/content/744e...

Absolute meltdown in HF crowding baskets this past week after they mostly held on in the middle weeks of the month. Pair is now down 6% for March, almost as bad as the broad market at -7%
The one I encountered today was a LLM repeating a claim that [COMPANY] had a duopoly on [INDUSTRY] because [BUCKET SHOP] confused the value of the market input size with the market output size to write a bullish note, which is interesting because I don’t think a LLM itself would make this error!

The only answer I can think of is ITA has a lot of exposure to commercial aerospace while IDEF has a 5% stake in Palantir and is mostly weapon manufacturers, and if you were worried about civilian travel dropping you wouldn't want ITA. But if you were worried about that you should just buy oil!

you charge the batteries from a regular 120V setup instead of needing to rewire for a 240V outlet, which most American kitchens don't have (usually they're only in the furnace/laundry room)
The line of reasoning that could have lead him here is mystifying to me. If you had foresight you’d buy oil calls, if you were smart you’d buy specific companies you knew would be involved, if you were dumb you’d still buy a broad ETF. But why would you ever want to buy this specific tiny ETF?
