At some point, possibly further in the future than any of us would hope for, uni finances will settle down. At that point, senior leaders are going to have to deal with the impact of all this trauma on staff relations. Staff who feel under constant threat aren't going to be working at their best.

On reflection and based on lots of grim news, I have come to the conclusion that, despite what everyone says, lessons will not be learnt. I'm not sure they will ever be learnt and I'm pretty confident that just saying they will be learnt pretty much means nada.
My deceased colleague Gerry was asked to deal with a squirrel obsessively hammering on the windows of the gym during an exam. Out he went. The exam stopped as all turned to watch the confrontation. Gerry appears and advances on Nutkin. Rather than retreating, it steps towards Gerry. He steps forward
£20m more staff cuts being put to the University’s Court today.
Around 250 people will be made redundant if the plan goes through and remove all of that £20m every year from the local economy and high street.
Over 1000 staff gone.

Academia is basically working on a boat that's holed beneath the waterline, we're going down slowly with less than enough lifeboats and the captain is currently asking us to throw people overboard to make us lighter in the hope we'll float.
