Hello, I'm not dead! Between the first exam of the Summer session and Wednesday's storms, I've been quite busy. Anyway, here are the >250 reports we collected at PRETEMP, many of them present in the ESWD as well. Hailstones got up to 8 cm and winds exceeded 110 km/h. 4 injuries were also counted
It was not exactly an impressive storm that produced it!
Gröberes Hagelgewitter mit Eisbrocken über 5cm heute im Raum Treviso. 🇮🇹
Der Ort ist kein Zufall: Venetien und das Friaul sind DIE Hagel-Hotspots in Europa. Vor 3 Jahren gab es hier den bisherigen 🇪🇺 Rekordhagel von 19cm Größe.

Update of the update: we found it as it approached the Monfalcone port, here seen by the nearby Panomax webcam! It could have made a (second?) landfall there, but of course we'll never know
A loop:
Well... that was an interesting signature last night near the Fossalon radar in NE Italy @federicopavan.bsky.social . It tracked mostly over sea, but hit a small section of land as well, so I'm curious whether some damage reports come from there. The circulation wasn't that strong though.
Thanks for the update!
After concluding yesterday that there are really too many dealiasing failures with German data currently, I increased the size of the window that determines how many neighbouring velocities are used in estimating the correct velocity. This seems an improvement, though dealiasing errors will remain.
Finally a closer look at when the circulation was over land, including a look at dual-pol variables through the RGB. It's possible that some debris was detected, but it's not a very coherent signature, and at least part of the low CC comes from ground clutter.
