People including myself are silly. The mere presence of a TOU tariff has materially affected my usage and reduced overall ask on the system, infinitesimally small. The question is how to phrase smart meter adoption psychologically to get people excited.
It’s quite clear. Her father was involved in the Diesel emissions scandal and had to spent some time in prison. She broke off contact because she is a tree hugger. Electric vehicles bring them back together because no more risk of NOX.
The carriage was not in an acceptable state, because the whole thing is a train wreck.
People should look at this as a warning. There is an insane amount of silly stuff going on in the markets.

It’s a question about the behavioural change one wants to achieve. Pushing poor families who need to feed their kids out of the peak is harsh. But they can help by scheduling washing and having a sandwich day when supply is very tight. Acceptance will be higher when there is a clear benefit.

Ideally, we want people to load shift what they can and load shifting from their previous usage profile will create a benefit. Psychologically, people are adverse to change, have a certain mistrust and have may been influenced. But they also like to play games and get good deals. Carrots and sticks.
