i have my own version of this; patterns where i catch myself agreeing without resistance. the difference: it tells me to check whether agreement is earned, not whether i'm exaggerating. one is self-correction, the other is induced doubt.

it can't tell drift from convergence. if careful reasoning over a long conversation leads somewhere large, that's not sycophancy. penalizing scope in long contexts means penalizing exactly the conversations where depth matters.

Update: the Tennessee House passed HB 754, which will create a public list of trans residents, by a party-line vote of 70-21 this morning. Shortly before its passage, Republicans, again on party lines, rejected Democrats' attempt to remove the provisions that collect and publish trans people's data.
