A castle, a long house, a tin tabernacle and a historic library and chapel - a wonderful variety of buildings for day two of the VAG Spring Conference in Stirling!

The rather lovely venue for this year's VAG Spring Conference - Stirling University. About to kick off with an introductory talk on 'Living in a cold, wet climate: environment, materials and vernacular buildings in Scotland'. Very appropriate as we've had a heavy shower earlier this evening!

Moirlanich Longhouse, near Killin, visited during VAG Spring Conference. Lovely example of a cruck-framed cottage with byre, with 'hingin lum' (hanging chimney) and box beds. National Trust for Scotland - well worth a visit!

More images from day one of the VAG Spring Conference in Stirling (where Christmas has come early to one shop).
Great day in Stirling on day one of the VAG Spring Conference, exploring the city and the castle (including the secret bits!).

The ginnel from the other side, in Powell's Yard, with a person walking past. The Wealden hall house on the left, behind 51 Goodramgate, was restored in the 1930s having become derelict. It is now a ladies clothes shop. #ArchitecturalIllustration #pencil #watercolour #drawing #ArtShare

This might look unappealing, but what you are seeing is a rare survival of a smoke bay (the blackened timbers which were part of a type of proto-chimney), dated 1500. Then in the late 16th century a brick chimney was built within the old smoke bay. Surveyed today in Notts.

Hello! Anyone in #Hampshire know if Kevin Stubbs - historic buildings expert - is still around and active in building conservation? Or if anyone knows of other Hampshire cob wall experts please
