can some pre-programming work in a ttprg? like a "starter scenario", from which then players go where ever.
Not quite "backstory" for a narrative hook to hang one's PC hat, but a "tutorial" of sorts.
perhaps it's pondering the divergence of board game & role game.
barbarian prince has story tables
to roll on, in which then one reacts to via mechanics. and that's largely ok for a certain style of play. I am playing a Game vs. I am playing a world...

working on my current project, thinking a lot about the notion of railroading, "roleplaying" & Role Playing.
loads love C/J RPGs, that have fairly prescribed stories, worlds, beats. doesn't matter. it's about playing *the* story.
but in ttrpgs, it's a sin. must feel autonomous always.
