Motorway Services Online
On this day 25 years ago (2001): then-Prime Minister Tony Blair made a stop at Cobham services (not that one) while on the campaign trail.
You are absolutely right, but often when they make new signs, they look at what's on the existing signs for inspiration
On this day 25 years ago (1991): the UK's first red route came into force in Islington. They would soon become a common sight across London and other urban areas.
On this day 15 years ago (2011): Cashel services opened. Ireland's first privately developed motorway service area began a new era where anybody could build a service station faster than the government.
On this day 30 years ago (1996): the Second Severn Crossing opened. It replaced the existing Severn Bridge (pictured), which was congested and in need of repairs.
The quintessential service station layout. 'Give way' signs are both in the wrong place. Junction on the right is badly faded so people assume the 'straight on' has priority. Potholes.
