New public art work “Orange Functional” (aka the basketball tree) by Cuban-born artist Alexandre Arrechea … on the Toronto waterfront.
A splash of good news.
But it’s not called the “Hamilton Main LRT, Road Redesign, and Utility Improvements Project” so people instinctively assign all these costs to the flashy part. More transparency would help so people know how much $ is not actually LRT but utility road improvements being done contemporaneously.
You raise a good point. A lot of transit projects tend to lop in “free” non-transit benefits which are very much not free (streetscaping, utilities, even job programs for disadvantaged locals). Like the14km $3bn Hamilton LRT includes replacing almost every sidewalk, watermain, and sewer along it.
It’s surreal seeing it come full circle. The people stuck in the crowded Church Street sidewalk are now free to roam the streets! (At least during the 2 month pedestrianization pilot)
Streets are for the people!

The National Security Minister of Israel tweets "All of Lebanon must burn. [...] All of Lebanon must burn. [...] For every tear of an Israeli mother, a thousand Lebanese mothers must weep. [...] You need to obliterate. To crush the terror."
Germany and the Czech Republic oppose sanctioning him.
God forbid a 6-story apartment disturb this bucolic scene.

I’m having a very on-brand Saturday night: reporting potholes in my neighbourhood (some for the third time in as many years). 🎉🍻 #Winnipeg #GoodTimes

Was on Church Street last night to celebrate the pedestrian pilot passing at City Council and saw what originally inspired me to propose pedestrianizing it in the first place—sidewalks so crowded that spill into the parking lane!
