Elevating the "one" in the arts at the expense or dismissal of the foundation, culture, infrastructure is the same system allowing uber-rich individuals in a society without real health care or true education for all. Thus, while a few stars are fun they cannot exist without extensive roots.

A writer and I were talking about the "long game" in publishing this morning and, after 28 years of releasing trade books, I both know it far too well and am weary of wondering why up to or beyond two years (for many presses) is required to let a writer know yes or nay. It just isn't. The end ;)
