I this is a fair and notable addendum: what makes DCC good is present in book 1 but more lightly and the flaws in its execution more prominent. Obv I think worth persisting with but DCC the book is irritatingly not the best shop window for DCC the series. (I really did mean interesting, not genius)

i suspect it might entrench some snobbery. The flaws in book 1 are many & undeniable. I persevered because the audiobook was very well done…& then I kept going.
