i’m not even a maximalist on this. i think compromise can be reasonable here.
but that compromise from city governments needs to be “we’ll cut your budget by 10% each year instead of dissolving you outright,” not “we’ll hire more cops if you promise not to try to do a coup.”
this is all equally true for jail/prison guards and prosecutors btw
the left’s retreat on policing since the 2020 uprisings has been a massive shortcoming.
police are the oppressors and political opponents of the working class. you can’t liberate communities or build sustained municipal power for working & oppressed people without fighting back.
