This housing-converted building was home to Northern Federal Savings and Loan, my employer in 1983 where I grossed $675/month and set people up with IRAs when they were first available. Gorgeous building. The S&L failed 🤔 and was acquired by Twin City Federal, where I became a student loan officer.

What happened to Duluth's brilliant and valiant effort to remove I-35 from its Lake Superior waterfront? Was there a backlash from car-dependent travelers and a DFL beholden to transportation contractors?
Take out the in-town portion of the highway. Re-route the traffic through downtown Duluth. Establish many, many opportunities for travelers to stop and spend money and give the lake back to Duluthians.
