Senator Hiram Revels and Joseph Rainey were elected to Congress in 1870. During Post Civil War Reconstruction over 1,500 African American officeholders served in elected or appointed office. We must finish the work of Reconstruction if we have any hope of eradicating White Supremacy in our nation.
Wild that I personally saw the paid canvassers for "Safer Portland" doing their deceptive thing and @jeremy4pdx.bsky.social calling them out! ✊
In the 2025 Oregon State Legislative session @travisnelson.bsky.social introduced House Bill 2995 which would create a task force to look into ways in which the state can give reparations for past acts of racism to African American people who live in Oregon. Read the full text of the bill below:
When I saw that Travis Nelson introduce this bill I was elated. It felt like a real step forward in continuing the work of post Civil War Reconstruction. I would happily support legislation similar to his bill on the city level. It’s not enough to be not racist. We must be anti-racist.
The best way Oregon can celebrate Juneteenth is by repaying the debt owed to Black Oregonians. Issuing Reparations for past acts of racism to African American people who live in the state will allow us to right the wrongs of the past and heal the collective trauma caused by Oregon’s racist history.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!! Because of y’all we were able to reach the 250 threshold to unlock $50,000 in campaign matching funds before Eric Zimmerman, who is an incumbent and the most conservative City Councilor. We can win this because our campaign is people powered. We forge on together 💪🏼
Yesterday I told another out of state, paid signature gatherer to stop lying about the Portland Police Union’s attempt to steal 25% of the Portland Clean Energy Fund to hire more cops. They are telling folks that the ballot measure will make Portland Safer, but it will do the exact opposite.
The lying about this ballot initiative is the worst I’ve seen. I have no problem calling out the petitioners and paid signature gatherers peddling these lies. If this ballot initiative were to pass it would seriously hinder our ability to fight Climate Change and build Climate Resiliency.
We completely flew past the 250 Portland donors needed to unlock the $50,000 in matching funds. Now we’re at almost 400 total contributions & just 16 under $25 donations behind Olivia Clark, who has the most donors over $250. Donate $5 at the link below and let’s unlock another $50k for the campaign
