I got to write about mammals pooping up in the branches of strangler figs in Costa Rica! This was SUCH fun.
A few things that didn't make it into the story:

The strangler fig is a keystone species in the tropics, providing food and shelter, and a place to poop for 17 different mammal species.
I find this unsettling: A new study in #Lancet shows that the number of faux citations in scientific articles is on the rise, and #AI is likely to blame. @aniloza.bsky.social reports. www.statnews.com/2026/05/07/l...

I'm sorry, what? In writing my first monograph, I spent six weeks trying to track down a citation in TWO languages I didn't know. And good thing too, because the citation was wrong. That's scholarship. That's research. You know, the thing we're trained to do?!?

Metabolic scaling is thought to scale very steeply with size in unicells but what if that steepness is simply an artefact? Out today in Ecology Letters, we show that metabolic scaling is not superlinear in unicells but instead scales at ~0.86 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10....

We embed TPCs into population dynamics to show how changing temperatures' ordering โ not just its distribution โ increases extinction risk (i.e. heatwaves matter!)
