That was I responded to & intending to be helpful to clarify the specific meaning of the term but you've not found that helpful to know what it means, why it is used, or the role of firm power in clean energy system.

Apologies if I’ve misunderstood you. Words have meaning - literally your expertise - & ‘firm’ has specific meaning in energy systems. That was the purpose of my response to you as your original post used the term incorrectly leading to a conclusion that is not supported by (clean) energy research
Jesse is a respected expert in clean energy systems & invested in facilitating deep decarbonisation.
We would both do well to test our assumptions against his and peers expert opinion.
Acknowledging fossil+CCS meets the def'n of clean firm does not equate to advocacy for fossil emissions expansion.

You may prefer the term ‘Other’ used in @davidosmond.bsky.social’s weekly models of the main Aust network. This is ‘firm’ energy of last resort - always available as long as req'd.
Firm/Other energy will evolve as he (& Zero Lab) describe but won’t be chem batteries.

PS Flexible coal + CCS is in Zero Labs paper under clean firm def'n &, frankly, if the tech was effective & economic that could be a good thing.
But it is neither &, regardless, does not impact the role of clean firm power in the Zero Lab models.
