Just an early morning sniffle.
This is the first one to actually make me a little sad the show didn't get a second series. If it had been independent of Dirk, I think it might've. But it's definitely closer to the source that the Netflix version, which - frankly - no. I'll take this any day.
You know who really gets the BBC #DirkGently? Matt Jones - yes, that Matt Jones - really gets the BBC Dirk Gently. Overman is good at this, don't get me wrong, but Jones manages to inject some actual emotion into the weirdness, and also lets Dirk do some actual detecting and noble sacrificing too.
Because Max/Jane is a sentient computer program that has taken over the body of a brain-dead hotty because human life is more interesting. It's an almost Adamsish idea - possibly a take on the electric monk, but if so moved on several degrees. It's also damned topical right now.
It's a lovely episode, showing the series really settling into itself (ironically just one episode away from death itself), and a little vertigo inducing as it's set at St Cedd's, bringing odd echoes of the original Dirk and Shada behind it. But it correctly stops there, doing its own thing instead.
Went to Destiny's Child's new restaurant. You would not believe the rigmarole when I tried to order a simple desert. #topical
The age gap in the relationship between Dirk and Max/Jane is frankly inappropriate, but his genuine affection for - and amazement by her very uniqueness - is almost Doctorish, and it hurts when the format reasserts itself at the end and they part for the most cursory of reasons.

Now Monday but we're always open to people wanting to highlight things we've published!
I have only ever used my real name on the Internet ever. "Real name" policies do nothing to protect anyone and do a ton to hurt people. This is also true of almost every "regulating social media" policy that any UK Government would ever actually consider.

Translunar Travelers Lounge
It's Sunday here in the lounge, we're already excited about Issue 15, but there's a lot of work between now and then (scheduled for August 15th). We're planning to have a look back at some earlier issues of the zine so here's a question - what's your favourite story that TTL has published?
