FWIW, Mistral isn't open source/weights. Its "modified" MIT license makes it non-free to use.
Their flagship, Mistral 3.5 medium, with 128B parameters, benches similarly to Qwen 3.6 27B which people run on consumer hardware.
Mistral 3.5 Medium was only released a month ago, to the bemusement of many commenters on e.g. Hacker News. Doesn't look like a release cadence quirk. I'm sure they'll make money thanks to the captive audience, but at some point this becomes unsustainable...
