1/ The fact some people have an issue with Juneteenth tells you everything you need to know about them. It’s one thing not to care about it—we can’t force people to celebrate—but to be openly hostile to the commemoration of the last enslaved people learning of their emancipation? Just deplorable!
So, this is what normal looks like...
Today, we celebrate Juneteenth a day that commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved African Americans were free, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
