This seems like a good time to announce two pieces of news: 1) I’ll be presenting my work on silicon sampling for conjoints tomorrow @experimentsapsa.bsky.social 2) I’ll be joining @lilymasonphd.bsky.social @snfagora.bsky.social for a postdoc starting this fall. Thanks to everyone for the support!

Love that this article keeps popping up in my feed. It's motivating to finish the final stretch of the study with @alicemalmberg.bsky.social, where we show significantly positive effects of the @marchforourlives.bsky.social Road to Change yearlong protest in 2018 and GOTV for youth. #SPSA

I decided to do something new for my final Research Methods for Public Policy class of the quarter. Many of my students are considering political work or grad school, so I walked them through pros and cons of each path based on my own experiences in 3 very different careers.

Can LLM-based 'silicon samples' accurately reflect human decisionmaking in conjoint tasks? The short answer is "not really" -- but there's more to the story. I'll be presenting my paper on synthetic sampling in conjoint experiments tomorrow at 10! #APSA2025
I am on the academic job market this fall! I study how Americans perceive and react to policy extremism, experimental design, & machine learning/AI. More about me, including my CV, research/teaching interests, & links to papers/code on my website: alicemalmberg.com

That’s a wrap on my first quarter as an instructor of record for methods, one of the hardest but most rewarding things I’ve done in my PhD. I’m so proud of my 43 undergraduates who conducted original, policy-oriented research projects and presented today to CA policy leaders and community members.

Here is a thread @ our new book Catching Fire in the News by @boydstun.bsky.social, me, @dallascard.bsky.social, and @nlpnoah.bsky.social. We ask: Why do some events become media storms while others, similar in many ways, don't? doi.org/10.1017/9781... video abstract: vimeo.com/1152181904
