Most Americans can't see any benefit they'll get from AI data centers but can see AI data centers are very important to the banks and billionaires who constantly fuck them over.
And who are also constantly saying "we're building data centers to fuck you over."
Hardly a surprise they're hated!
Frankly, I want to divest SCOTUS of jurisdiction to enter *any* orders reversing a lower court without a complete elaboration of the reasons why. They are the least busy judges in America with a self-selected workload. If they can't bother to explain it, they should not do it.
We need more of this from leaders across civil society - immediate, simple, direct responses to lying. Let's bring back shame!
Bari Weiss - a DEI hire for mediocre right-wing hacks - embodies everything she performatively rallies against: political bias, wokeness, & censorship.
It’s truly astonishing to see how comprehensively the US government is tearing down every part of the system that has made it up until now a world-leading power in science, research, and technological development. The entire world will suffer from this wanton destruction.
it’s because there’s raw shit in the milk. consuming cow shit can lead to illness
I've been warning about this moment for two decades over at Techdirt
The U.S. is too corrupt to regulate data brokers (and their exploitation and sale of location data) and the check has come due
In a statement to @benmullin.bsky.social, Scott Pelley disputes what Bari Weiss said in this morning's editorial meeting, claiming he was never offered "a way back" as she claimed.
"These executives cannot gain the trust of the staff with lies. This is antithetical to everything we stand for..."
73% of faculty are not in this sample.
I have resigned from the Greenhouse Gas Protocol's Independent Standards Board.
The Protocol is openly violating its own rules and has effectively delegated forest carbon accounting standards to a secret, industry-led working group.

White House proposes new rules giving political appointees final approval of research grants
These proposed Office of Management and Budget regulations would render the federal research grant review process opaque

What do Americans know about AI? Very little, except that CEOs of the AI companies, and high profile proponents of AI, have gleefully promised to put them out of work. Data centers are just proxies for people's anger, because they are tangible.
Whenever federal court reform comes around, it can't be only SCOTUS expansion, limiting of jurisdiction, ethics reform etc. It has to be dealing the shadow docket and limiting to actual emergencies.

Scoop: Central Command is getting reports that military personnel are being targeted using commercially available location data. Few details available, but it’s a sign that the tech industry’s advertising-surveillance complex is having consequences on the battlefield.

Idaho health officials are investigating how nearly 60 people got sick after drinking raw milk in the past two weeks.
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare says they didn't name two dairies potentially linked to the outbreak “because this is a potential risk for any raw milk producer.”

It's an illustration of how the global surveillance economy is shaping the battlefield.
Genuinely don’t understand what’s happening here - it’s not like there’s been some major data center disaster. It feels like a meme around an issue the public only loosely understands to begin with
The Department of Health and Welfare didn't disclose the names of dairies in North Idaho and southern Idaho that are linked to the outbreaks.
BREAKING: In an unsigned, per curiam opinion on the shadow docket, the SCOTUS conservatives allow Alabama to use a congressional map held repeatedly by a lower court to have been enacted with discriminatory intent.
