This is right. Donald Trump's GOP is trying to bring back a king and is antagonistic towards Reconstruction amendments.
Any elected Democrat who thinks that we can simply "affordability" our way out of a GOP relitigating the chief outcomes of both the Revolutionary War AND the Civil War is wrong.

I think Obama's speech also implicitly urges Democrats to go bigger against Trump and MAGA. Small-bore politics and slogans about "affordability" aren't going to cut it. Obama was modeling a big argument for Dems:
