NEW OP-ED// Op-Ed: Help Seattle Get the Frequent Transit Network We Deserve

The Move All Seattle Sustainability Coalition is calling on City Council to approve Mayor Katie Wilson's proposed Seattle Transit Measure renewal to fund vastly more bus service and expand fare subsidies to the lowest income Seattleites. Here's why.
Property owners and businesses seem fine to give up on-street parking for this and Seattle seems fine to leave these in the right of way. What if we turned these blocks parallel to the road and made them into tactical protected bike lanes? Let's use this wasted space for something good.
$50M that Seattle has had no plan to use for 4 years and counting.
"Aurora Avenue North: Build protected bike lanes on one of Seattle’s busiest and most dangerous roadways, connecting Aurora from Seattle city limits to the Aurora Bridge. $50 million in state funding is earmarked for this project."
This is on the designated school route to Ingraham high school for kids who walk to and from the bus stop.
"Officials plan to systematically block off parts of Aurora Avenue at North 96th, 98th, 100th, and 102nd Streets"
A side effect will be greatly improving the N 100th Healthy Street experience by reducing car traffic and conflicts where there is currently a 2 block gap.
“I apologize that we failed you. That the community had to get out on their own and put up barriers and put their own lives and family at risk," one city councilmember said.
About 45 minutes ago, Seattle Fire just responded to a driver hitting someone on a bike at Aurora Ave N and N 130th Street.
The person who was hit is being transported to Harborview right now.
