What's the mechanism? Dendrites. PCA of dendritic voltages shows that harder tasks recruit higher-dimensional dynamics, more semi-independent dendritic branches doing local computations. It's a distributed, high-rank representation across the tree. (9/15)
The Milky Way looks like a rave.
NEW PAPERšŸšØšŸ‘€ in Science Advances with a wonderful transatlantic team. (incl @sylvainbaillet.bsky.social @olejensen.bsky.social @katduecker.bsky.social) Using human MEG, we found lower-order and higher-order neural processes that underlie illusory transitions in conscious visual perception. šŸ§µšŸ‘‡
Super glad to have our team's work on clinical applications of neural simulations highlighted in this article! Trying to bring academic work to the real-world has been a great experience and I'm quite excited to continue these efforts with @dvwz.bsky.social and @jonescompneurolab.bsky.social
Meet the trainees co-founding companies to defeat Alzheimer’s disease and other disorders! Larry Heller, Ryan O'Rourke, @dvwz.bsky.social and @ntolley.bsky.social share the story of their entrepreneurial journeys. carney.brown.edu/news/2026-05-05/ad-spin-offs
Happy to share a new preprint from the @hnnsolver.bsky.social team!šŸ§ šŸ’»šŸŽ‰ "Uncovering putative neural mechanisms of neurotherapeutic impacts on EEG using the Human Neocortical Neurosolver" šŸ“ www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
The Orange Cat Brain Atlas is here. 🧠🐈 Today, we published the first comprehensive cellular map of the orange cat brain. The new atlas reveals a single, specialized neuron responsible for behaviors like staring at walls, knocking objects off tables, and the 3am "zoomies."
Slight but exciting departure from typical projects for me: I’m happy to share our paper finding that frontal beta event characteristics predict antidepressant response to sertraline (SSRI) has been accepted at J Psychiatric Research! 1/ www.medrxiv.org/content/10.6... #psychscisky #neuroskyence
Almost done with my next lecture, so going back now to work on some new memes
The biggest problem holding neuroscience back right now isn’t data or tools, thanks in large part to the BRAIN Initiative. It’s fragmentation across species. I wrote this to hopefully spark discussion around an issue that can only be solved as a communityšŸ‘‡ www.thetransmitter.org/animal-model...

Here's the most complete picture of the Milky Way's center ever created www.livescience.com/milky-way-ce... Made from nearly 400 separate observations, the new image reveals strange structures never seen before.
