The maps feel... claustrophobic. and thats a bit of a pain point.
it seems like they're trying to make width and length have an evenish ratio but that doesnt really play well into the speed of the game. Even if they were large in size, not having them stretched one way or the other doesnt help.
It has its merit, and plays well, but it seems like they're presenting slightly more comp-based, whether thats residual from the Splitgates, or intentional, im not sure.
I will give em this, the game looks nice and runs like a fuckin DREAM. no issues on upper-medium settings. No upscaling, either.
Instead of everyone having a mech to call in, they spawn in like "Special weapons" on 2 points of the field, typically opposite ends. eh
It has Halo style aiming, you dont really use your sights, you just zoom in with an exception or two. Never been a huge fan of that, myself
I have hired this Daily red panda to stare at you
Daily Wah (red pandas)
also, of the maps ive seen, they arent all that distinct? the game looks nice and all but there isnt a particular color scheme or overlay or visual flair. Midday, one maybe mid-afternoon, in a shipping yard type deal, a highrise, or some inner-city park.

I cant find an overview of any maps online for Empulse, but to compare to a titanfall map, lets say... Homestead. The map is fairly open, and also pretty uneven. Rock walls, inclines, a couple buildings, but it has length and a lot of room to stretch your legs
Empulse's are like glitch but cut down.
movement feels smooth, which yeah i'd hope it does. There's something about Titanfall 2's which I cant place in my head but it certainly tries to reach it, and does fairly well. Chaining feels pretty good.

It has a sorta sporty vibe to it visually; i understand why, the last two games these guys made were very sporty in-and-of-themselves, that's their style to a point, but idk im not personally a fan.
Mechs are squishy. like, pretty susceptible to normal gunfire
so. i just played some Empulse, new game that has a next fest demo, from the splitgate devs.
Spiritual successor to titanfall (2)
I have some thoughts
