In retrospect I do think the "twist" in SUGAR season one may be my favorite in television history, even though it's not even close to being a traditionally good or even enjoyable show. The vibes are simply insane

The show itself feels as distant from reality as its main character does, and the twist works because it feels like a stylistic choice up until it's revealed as a literal plot device

I would add that the inherent artifice of the musical-theater style is why it so rankles to hear her occupy genres that, for better or worse, rely on perceived authenticity to function. I hear a child singing show tunes that simulate "rocking out"
