Yeah, definitely a male and that was my impression too that they were darker š
Also seems quite structurally similar (more similar?) to some Oegocoriphidae (tribe Pleurotini). Donāt know if there are any in Australia though?
Sounds like I need to splash out. The leafhopper ones get a lot of use so Iām sure it will be worth it.
Green Silver-lines is my favourite moth. Sadly one I no longer see very often - theyāre getting really scarce round here and Iāve not caught one anywhere since 2022.
Fantastic! If this was in Norfolk Iād be very grateful if you could pop the details (date, grid ref, etc.) over to me for the records. Or bung it on iRecord if thatās easier.
You lasted out there longer than I did!
This was one of the first images I looked at when searching for rufifrons... observation.org/observation/... surely not rufifrons but another Brachyarthrum limitatum? I think there was at least one other similar one among the first few I looked at though I can't find the other one now.
Iām sure you meant Scorpionfly for the last one⦠Iāve think you can see the callipers clearly enough to confirm itās Panorpa communis.
Personally I would count it if I didnāt know it was there. AGP at Ythan on my find list on that basis. But I can see the sense of the rule if being competitive about it.
Thanks Andy - front margin of the pronotum is *slightly* paler but the tip of the scutellum isnāt at all.
Do you have both volumes of Niedringhaus, Stƶckmann & Wachmann? Looks like it might be Ā£200 well spent š®
