Post-Greed Wars, soldiering is a lifestyle and a career. You’re paid pretty well and always have a home at the Lightning church. The government subsidizes a lot of their pay and benefits, though a large portion also comes from the mandatory tithes paid by people who were born on the day
of the week corresponding to the Lightning element.
It’s been a long time since Aloutia went into enemy territory, so pillaging isn’t something they think about regularly, but it IS on the table. If they were to march into Ophidia, there’s no rule stating they can’t do whatever the fuck they want.
