16 quick hours in D.C. and I always appreciate the reminder of what a vibrant city our nation’s capital is despite the political regime. Here are a few signs I saw running here and there. Happy Juneteenth weekend D.C.
It's especially obvious in music that people misunderstand messages or narratives in art that are laid out very plainly. Folks get married to songs about breakups. Critiques of US foreign policy are played at patriotic rallies. How much clearer could Lennon's Imagine have been? Do people get it? No.

If the "takeaway" of a film is widely misunderstood, who is to blame, the filmmakers or the audience? For instance, if Marines watch Apocalypse Now and cheer the destruction and come away thinking Kilgore and Kurtz are awesome, are they media-illiterate, or did the movie fail in some basic way?
