If the position is "big market fans shouldnt be able to buy" the logical end state of that is some big market team asking why do we do revenue sharing? I get that no one wants to see a fan takeover. but id argue this is a fraying of solid system that benefits every team.
Like if the Spurs were on the cusp of the first Wemby title, I think it would be pretty salty for MSG to ban Spurs fans from buying tickets. That would be shitty.
I should also add that sadly unlike our actual economic system, the NBA works on a robust socialistic system that uses various mechanisms to take money from rich teams and gives it to struggling ones. it works and it's why we can have teams in OKC etc...
Resale prices for Knicks WATCH PARTIES. Insane.

take it up with capitalism
ok so fans should have to fill out income forms? does that work?
I'm sure it feels good to do this. When Paul Pierce was taking bows at center court at MSG, I would've loved to ban all C's fans from the building. But without some policy, you could see this leading to tit-for-tat bans across the postseason at least. Which is dumb on multiple levels.
The NBA needs a policy for this going forward. Either you can resell and buy tickets are you cant. Maybe an opposing fans section like in soccer? But it cant be a chaotic day of improvisation forever www.tmz.com/2026/06/12/s...
Suddenly, there's a "No City Slickers" rule in place for the NBA Finals game 5 ... the San Antonio Spurs are yanking tickets away from Knicks fans hoping to watch their team win its first 'chip in 53 ...
