And I think that’s the important thing that OP is missing - guns in the troubles were more often being used to assassinate rivals in public places or executing civilians, not having defensive shootouts with the British army.
If you think the ends justify the means re: targeting and killing civilians we will simply have to disagree. I stand by the original point that the conflict would certainly not have been improved by the presence of more guns, and they wouldn’t help now either!
When I say civilians I mean just that, maybe read up about it.
Oh I certainly agree (and if you think I need the colonial aspect pointing out then you missed my reference to “the north of Ireland”) but I don’t think having armed people largely shooting civilians was good or indeed useful and certainly wasn’t the kind of self defence tool implied here
Reading is pretty much a long-standing technology that we can use to make our children smarter. Neuroscientists have shown that reading lights up all kinds of different areas of the brain; it’s a very complex task. So way to go, swapping it for the main technology making us stupider!
I think if your bio is all about anti-racism then it shouldn’t be hard to see the ableist resonances of her “statement”
No, I’m not - I’m saying that in the specific case of Ireland, most of those guns were ultimately used to kill civilians or members of opposing groups, not the oppressed peoples vs the govt angle that is implied in this thread
It’s 2026 and we’re still making stevie wonder is blind jokes? JFC
