For the first time ever, China's Top 10 best-selling passenger vehicles were ALL New Energy Vehicles in May 2026. ✅ 8 BEVs ✅ 1 EREV ✅ 1 PHEV ❌ 0 ICE In the world's largest auto market, EVs vs ICE = 10-0. The internal combustion engine era keeps imploding. The speed of disruption is accelerating.
Disruption rarely stays where it starts. China crossed the critical mass phase of the EV transition years ago. Now we're seeing the second-order effects. China exported 3.28 million vehicles in the first four months of 2026, up 52% YoY. Nearly half were EV. More than South Korea exports per year.
IKEA didn't build renewable generation to power 1.47 million homes because politicians told them to. They did it because the economics stacked up. With much of the investment already paid off, savings of over half a billion USD per year on electricity costs, the fundamentals become hard to ignore.
Australia posted another #EV record. May 2026 results: • BEV share: 19.9% (record) • EV share (BEV + PHEV): 28.6% • BEV sales: +111.6% YoY • Overall auto market: -2.3% YoY Petrol sales fell ~30% YoY. Diesel sales fell ~26% YoY. Three consecutive monthly BEV share records (March, April, May).
Laos has become the second country after Ethiopia to ban imports of most new petrol and diesel vehicles. Why? Laos imports 100% of its fuel, yet exports electricity generated largely from hydropower. This isn't just climate policy. It's energy security, economics and strategic independence. #EVs
Most people know Kenya for wildlife. Far fewer know it already operates one of the cleanest electricity systems on Earth. Around 91% of electricity now comes from renewable sources, while fossil generation has fallen from roughly 48% in 2010 to around 10% in 2025. #Bettrification

Gas spent 20 years owning the evening peak. Batteries took a year to crash the party. That's disruption. Not gradual, but a rapid shift in who supplies grid's most valuable hours. The battle was never about total generation. It was about the peak & batteries are winning it. #Bettrification #BESS
I recently shared a post about ALDI's renewable energy program and someone asked about Coles and Woolworths. I double checked. By the end of 2025, all three of Australia's largest supermarket chains were ALL sourcing 100% renewable electricity across their operations! #Bettrification #SWB

Most shoppers never notice it, but the roof of my local ALDI is covered in #solar panels. Multiply that across 600+ stores and Australia's 3rd largest supermarket chain starts looking a lot like a distributed power company. The energy transition is happening in plain sight. ⚡🏪☀️ #Bettrification
Welcome to the wonderful world of fossil fuel industry welfare recipients. Not quite the rugged free-market pioneers they claim to be. My latest article, "The Fossil Fuel Welfare State", follows the money & asks a simple question: If fossil fuels are so competitive, why do they need so much support?

The Energy Transition on Supermarket Roofs

Fossil fuels receive more support than renewables under both direct subsidy and IMF methodologies. The numbers challenge one of energy's biggest myths.
