Excited to get my copy and can’t wait to read the views of a critical friend of (and no stranger to) Britain. Love the cover too! @helenebismarck.bsky.social
Only a fragment, yet it still stops you in your tracks: A small survival from Amarna, where art got radically, gloriously strange under Akhenaten. Dating to around 1353–1336 BC šŸ“· Metropolitan Museum

A view down the ruined Long Gallery at beautiful Kirby Hall, Northamptonshire. Part of the house is still roofed, part is a ruin…and it’s all very beautiful 🄰 Kirby’s an elegant 16th century home, with a few 17th century amendments and quite a lot of 18th century additions. Recommend a visit!

One advice I always try to impart to younger scholars is to read widely beyond one's topic, as this might provide very useful insights. I'm reminded of this today, as reading about Peruvian utopianism has provided me with a very good way of explaining the cult of saints in twelfth-century Norway.

#Cycling the simply incredible Gorges de la Nesque yesterday in Provence, France - a giddying drop into limestone forests with a mountain road engineered through the rock, and vultures (yes, really) soaring above 🤩 Huge cave systems & rock shelters are everywhere in the escarpments 😮 šŸ“· My own

Denby imperial blue china was on our wedding list, 35 years ago. We've used it pretty much every day. I've regularly restocked to make up for breakages. And today I bought my last cereal bowls from their final clearance sale. This feels like a real tragedy - such a great company.
