The main gate of St John's College, Cambridge dates from 1516. The supporters of the coat of arms here are yales, mythical goat-like creatures.

Filipendula vulgaris, Dropwort. June 2017. Probably at Jeffrey Bog. The more refined and less competitive of the two species. And to be preferred if you want one in your garden.
Since seeing your post I have looked at the distribution maps and become aware of how well Four-leaved Allseed is doing in the London area. A special pleasing category of botanising for me -- 'on the way to the shops'. Here it is with Veronica polita, Grey Field Speedwell. #botany

Adiantum (many var.) - Maidenhair fern
Pleasant plant indoor & green house. They do well in a bathroom with bright but indirect sunlight. Needs regular water (more than you think) - never let them dry out.

Birds using the Stable Block at NT Wimpole today.
Male House Sparrow ruling the roost despite his size, a Pied Wagtail quietly keeping an eye on the cafe tables,
a Jackdaw skulking on the roof, and a Swallow weaving in and out of the entrance arch.
