Celebrating HHMI giant Gerry Rubin today, winner of the Wiley Prize in Biomedical Sciences! Along w/ colleagues, Rubin — founding Exec. Dir. of our Janelia Research Campus — is recognized for mapping connectomes, the wiring diagrams of neurons that underlie how the brain functions: bit.ly/4aXkrs4
I don't know who this guy is (just a disclaimer, I guess), but this is a compelling and arithmetically straightforward explanation of the many predicaments the US finds itself in. Why upward mobility in America is a myth and class warfare is on the rise. Read it over your morning coffee.
I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.
Democratic messaging about Trump’s “billionaire friends” is horribly misguided. 1) he has no friends. 2) all the grift is for himself and his offspring. That’s it. All the rest is the cost of doing business. Stop blaming anonymous billionaire “friends”.
Earthquake! Small one, thankfully.
