This will lock in ongoing destruction of nature and massive greenhouse gas emissions from industrial logging. It’s yet another lifeline for the native forest logging industry, which cannot survive without massive taxpayer subsidies.

Can you believe this? Labor is handing over tens of millions of dollars from an emissions reduction fund to help a Tasmanian cement plant burn native forests.

Yesterday we learned that Labor and the Liberals are working on a bilateral agreement to approve Tasmanian logging operations. This is being done before the relevant environmental standards have even been finalised. This is totally unacceptable.
We haven’t even seen some of the standards in draft form. Those we have seen are woefully inadequate. Labor and Liberal governments in Tasmania have spent years rubber-stamping forest destruction, and simply can’t be trusted to look after our precious native forests.
