We are pleased to announce the Biology of Vector-Borne Diseases (BVBD) summer school, 1–5 June 2026, France (sister course of BVBD in Idaho). Apply here bvbd-france.workshop.inrae.fr to bridge disciplines (biology, ecology, epidemiology, modeling, policy) and work on real-world wicked challenges.
We are now taking applications for the workshop on "Tracking the Dispersal and Impact of Biological Particles that Ride the Atmospheric Highways", in Avignon, 21 -24 April 2026: beyond.paca.hub.inrae.fr/aerial-dispe...
Among the treasures is the output from a computer "job" (that was the jargon in 1984) ran on the Univ WI's mainframe computer: 40 sq m of paper to produce a dendogram from a cluster analysis. Somehow I manually translated this into code for a printer to etch out a miniature A4 version.
Camille Portes just defended her thesis on "Enhanced risk-based surveillance of Xylella fastidiosa", a test of the capacity of machine learning to ferret out environmental indicators of Xf and to assess their applicability across different regions. beyond.paca.hub.inrae.fr/news/camille...

Slowly cleaning out my office to prepare for retirement. Of all of the documents and various printed stuff I have accumulated over the years that I am sending to recycling, why is it so difficult to get rid of the lab books and computer printouts from my PhD thesis 40 yrs ago?
