I ate a scoop just yesterday. My favorite flavor too!
One can’t think of adult DS without retinotopy, so it may seem like the computing wave direction may be the “original” reason. But is there a scenario where an animal might want to go through the trouble of organizing the retina and not care about DS as an adult?
Congrats George!
Congrats Yvette!
Thank you for the hospitality @nitmb.bsky.social !
New preprint from the group on the evolution of retinal cell types. Check the summary by Dario @dariotommasini.bsky.social !
Hi both - just seeing this. SACs go way back based on their tight conservation in extant vertebrates but I don’t know about SAC DS. I would guess they do.
Not sure I understand Tom’s question. If SACs extract directional information in infancy and the adult, maybe both always existed together?
