I don't think people fully appreciate how apocalyptic things are for US science. I haven't had any new funding since 2024, but I'm still ok since typical grants are for three years. This means next year I will be completely out of funding and will have to fire everyone in the lab. It's not great.
Again, the first Tea Party rallies in April 2009 -- heavily promoted in advance by Fox News -- only had about 300,000 attendees across 750 cities, but the media treated it like the Second American Revolution.
There will be multiple *individual* No Kings rallies today that have more people at them.
Eight years ago, I was a city planner in Central Queens. One of the worst part of the job was having to tell homeowners that it wasn't legal to build an ADU. Now New York City has a whole website dedicated to helping homeowners build an ADU. The arc of justice is long, etc.

Awful. Conditions just continue to worsen for Colorado's snowpack (and across many other western U.S. states), with average snow water equivalent nosediving after the historic March heatwave. (which actually continues today with more record heat!)
