Grew up in a small suburb and a small town. Thought I would only thrive in a rural place b/c it’s what I knew. I was afraid of cities until I actually lived in one. Then after two years in Philadelphia I remember thinking one day “wow that’s weird, my depression and malaise have vanished.” 🤷♀️

I think it's deeper than that. It used to be that middle America hated the cities and didn't want to live in them. Now they claim to hate them - but I wonder how much of that is hating on people who seem to live in a place that's better than their own. (FTR, I live happily in a small town.)
