I feel the metaphor of seeing a computer as “an electronic brain“ has harmed the general understanding of a computer. A computer can’t think, it just follows very strict instructions.
A computer won’t do something on its own, it needs instructions to do anything.
I still get emails asking if using Inochi2D for this and that is OK. And like, yeah. Use it for whatever you want. That’s the entire point of the open license. You don’t need my consent to use it.

Problem with people hopping from explicitly commercial product to commercial product is that large companies have no incentive to make a good product. Making a good product means they can’t perpetually extract value (money) from you.
Indie (F)OSS software is the only long term solution, imho.
All a computer does is artithmetic and basic binary logic. Nothing more.
AI is no different in that it’s just a bunch of arithmetic on fractional numbers, only difference is that a lot more people are getting tricked into seeing intelligence where there is none.
Only something made by people out of love instead of out of purely profit will ever aim to do its task well.
