It was originally made for Vaatividya's contest about imagining a follow-up to bloodborne.
I tried to focus on a character who was mentioned in-game but never seen : Runesmith Caryll.
I went with a birdlike design as it felt more fitting of the little informations that we have of her.
"The woman is long gone, but the beast she became keeps her purpose. Endlessly etching the whispers of The great Ones"
Five years later, and this is still one of my favorite paintings.
It was a big breakthrough for me at the time. One of my first illustrations that felt like professional work.

I had a mechanic called Ruin, so this name felt like a nice reference to the original context of the illustration.
It’s one of my strangest designs. It totally changes the way you play and makes everything quite chaotic.
