We in ICEHO decided to support a Mexican grassroots initiative to compensate somewhat for environmental impact of the World Congress of Environmental History in 2024. My colleague Micheline Cariño has now written about what this initiative achieved.

This is such a good example of what architecture has become to many people: surface, façade, visual aesthetics from the outside. It also shows how hollow much conservative politics is, and sadly it is easy to mobilize people with an appeal to the "classical" and "traditional"--even when fake.
