Corporate media got some things right on Platner. And it was enough to confirm he's had a troubled life and in any other era would be deemed a bad candidate. But when you focus on what local media was finding with its investigations, you see that much of what corporate media reported was false.
I love this show
It is not just him saying this. It is not just his family saying this. It is not just his campaign saying this. It is not just his friends saying this. It is not just neighbors saying this. It is not just supporters saying this. It's local media, local public servants...everyone.
for years, while suffering from postwar PTSD and depression, he was a Reddit shitposter. But a Maine Monitor analysis of his posts concluded that, while edgy, there was little truly offensive in them when they are put in context.
early on in his marriage, while he and his wife were struggling, he sexted other women. His wife confronted him; he confessed; he entered therapy; they began counseling. Now everyone agrees they have a strong marriage.
In absolute historic terms, Platner is not a good candidate. In 2026 terms? He could be anything from a great candidate to a lousy one. But that determination needs to be made on fact rather than rumor or libel, and is best made by people in the region Platner is from.
"we didn't set out to do anything good, so mission accomplished."

Platner got an ill-advised tattoo alongside a number of other drunk service members in Croatia two decades ago. Yet everyone agrees, even his critics, that he's spent the two decades since decrying Nazism ardently in public and private.
