Tartan Army organizer Scott Gillan said the group "spoke to a few bus companies, and the prices were incredible. So we then had a little bit of a joke, 'Let's get some school buses, the schools are off.'"
Trying to avoid the steep train prices the MBTA is charging for a roundtrip ride between Boston and Foxborough, Scotland's kilt-cladded Tartan Army fans descended upon Providence over the weekend and rented out dozens of school buses sourced from across New England.
Organizers charged fans $38 per seat on the buses (less than half the price of the commuter rail fare). The funds went toward the cost of transportation, a few alcoholic beverages and water provided to passengers on board, as well as more than $16,000 in charitable donations to local organizations.

Faced with the high cost of transportation to the soccer tournament, Scotland's Tartan Army rented “every single yellow school bus” in the region to get to Foxborough to see their team play Haiti.
