On the other hand I don't love that gender dysphoria is being used to invoke the ADA; feels too much like gay as a mental disorder

Dysphoria coded as disability allows for a lot more concessions in hostile states--my nonbinary middle schooler basically has their bathroom rights enshrined as part of their 504/IEP.
It has also helped with insurance coverage for GAC.
